The Silk Creme Moisturising Photo Edition Foundation claims to be a make up artist favourite, creating a photo-ready, flawless canvas with a natural luminous finish. It's also marketed as a long-wearing, highly pigmented, full-coverage formula that is hydrating and lightweight.
"Now, for the first time ever, the professional-quality, long wear benefits of the Silk Creme are available in a moisturising formula for normal to dry skin. Whether you're seeking an oil free formula with a natural matte finish or a moisturising formula with a luminous finish, Silk Creme Photo Edition foundations will give you the confidence of a photo-ready flawless finish - whatever the occasion." -Laura Mercier
This foundation is packaged in a small, glossy squeeze tube with a nozzle applicator containing 30ml worth of product, the standard amount for liquid foundations. To apply, shake very well and apply a small amount with a damp sponge and blend gently from the centre outwards for a luminous and flawless finish. If you don't have a beauty blender, I find that brushes works just as well. Before applying foundations, I always use my Laura Mercier radiance primer and spot treat dry patches with the clinique moisture surge intense to create a smoother and flake-free base. With the silk creme foundation, a little goes a long way; I use a pea-sized amount of product and dot it on my face and blend in downward strokes.
The texture of this foundation is a little thick but it's definitely silky and creamy, even though it is a water base foundation, and it blends beautifully! Since this is a moisturising formula, there is ample time before the foundation sets to a smooth, satin finish with subtle radiance - slightly dewy but not at all sticky or greasy. This product is unscented and is moisturising enough that it doesn't accentuate the dry patch on my nose and chin! I find that this does retexturizes my skin making it look and feel smooth
The silk creme moisturising photo edition foundation is highly pigmented and provides full coverage for up to 12 hours of wear, although I only wore it for 9 and it lasted without transferring, separating, fading or drying up and accentuating dry patches. This product helped conceal redness, small freckles scarring and brightens/evens my skin tone without oxidising! So far, this foundation didn't cause any irritations, breakouts and is fragrance free which is great for anyone who is sensitive to scents.
I love how comfortable the Laura Mercier Silk Creme foundation feels - it's lightweight, but not at all weightless. Despite the fact that this product is full coverage, it looks completely natural - no heaviness, caking or masking! This foundation is also SPF-free, which means it guarantees a lasting finish even when it's exposed to hot lights and flash photography - perfect for bridal and special occasions/events, however, if you're going to use this for an everyday foundation I'd recommend mixing it with a bit of sunblock to sheer out the coverage and provide your skin with sun protection.
Laura Mercier Silk Creme moisturising photo edition foundation / Laura Mercier Smooth finish flawless fluide foundation
Blended - Laura Mercier Silk Creme moisturising photo edition foundation / Laura Mercier Smooth finish flawless fluide foundation.
There are 12 shades to select from - I have mine in the shade ivory which is a light beige with warm, yellow undertones. Overall I love this foundation! It's perfect for any MUA's kit, it's long-wearing, it has a luminous finish, it's photo-ready and it's moisturising with an incredibly high-coverage formula! This is definitely going to be one of my most preferred foundations on rotation! The only downside to the silk creme foundation is the small dissimilarity in shades between different foundation ranges. The Ivory in the smooth finish flawless foundation is lighter than the Ivory in the silk creme foundation, which is a lot more golden and and warmer.
The Laura Mercier Silk Creme moisturising photo edition foundation retails for $59 AUD at selected David Jones Laura Mercier counters on the 3rd of May and they're worth the investment for people with normal to dry skin types.
